METHODS FOR REMOVING GUM FROM CONCRETE

The best methods for removing gum from concrete usually depends on the gum’s age and level of penetration into the concrete surface. If the chewing gum was left not long ago and it has not penetrated the surface, we are sometimes able to get it off by covering it with ice until the gum freezes, then scraping the gum off with a metal putty knife.

The ice forces the gum to freeze into a workable substance compared to a warm and stringy glob. Once the gum is frozen, we slide a putty knife or scraper right under the gum. Next we slide the scraper slowly beneath the gum and the whole piece should then peel right off the concrete.

The above process is only possible with gum that is brand new.

When we remove chewing gum that has turned black, or is smashed down into the concrete surface, we use a hot water power washer with the heat turned up to 200 Degrees in order to melt the gum. For this type of gum removal, we don’t use high pressure because that will sometimes damage the surface of the concrete!

Our pressure washers never uses any more pressure than necessary to clean concrete surfaces. These surfaces can be damaged much easier than people think, especially if they’re only a few years old. Concrete can need up to 100 years to cure. That is why we always use hot water and the least amount of pressure possible for our professional chewing gum removal professional.
