10 Outdoor Spring Cleaning Projects
Spring cleaning isn’t exciting for many of us. But it is important. As the winter near an end and we begin looking forward to spring and warm weather, something within us tells us to get our homes in order by cleaning, organizing and throwing away things we’ve piled up throughout the winter.
But who says spring cleaning is limited to the inside of a home?
The outside of your house could probably use some tidying up after a cold, dreary winter, too!
It’s Time For Home Exterior Cleaning
Here are home exterior cleaning projects that will really improve the appearance of your house in Pasadena, and, more importantly, will offer much-needed care and maintenance that will save money over the years ahead.
1. Gutter Cleaning
Spring is the ideal time to clean your gutters, since so many of leaves and debris collect in the fall and winter. The pollen count is at its highest in the spring, making a big mess in your gutters and downspouts if they are not properly cleaned.
Plus, bugs and animals are looking for places to build homes in spring, so having your gutters cleaned will help prevent an infestation in your home.
Gutter cleaning consists of cleaning the inside of your gutters, removing mold, mildew, rust stains and returning them to a nice appearance.
2. Window Cleaning
Exterior window cleaning is essential for spring cleaning. Ground floor windows shouldn’t give you much of an issue, but any second and third floor windows will be a bit tougher to reach.
Cleaning windows by hand is a hard job, and will require a lot of supplies, not to mention going up and down a ladder! A soft wash or professional cleaning of your home’s windows is the recommended way to get the panes and the outer frame clean.
3. Pressure Washing
You don’t want clean gutters and windows on a dirty home. This means you will want to pressure wash your house too!
Pressure washing is quick, effective and doesn’t cost too much. You can pressure clean your home, outdoor furniture, concrete patios, porches and walkways with very little effort. It will knock off dirt and mud so they will not permanently stain your house, and you can also prevent the spread of mold, mildew and allergens.
4. Driveway Cleaning
Clearing off your driveway and giving it a good cleaning might seem counter-productive since you’ll still be driving on it, but, a clean, maintained driveway can increase the curb appeal of your house.
A professional pressure washer will do wonders when it comes to driveway cleaning, whether it is concrete, asphalt, brick or another material. Also consider adding a gravel border to your driveway to really make it pop!
5. Patio Cleaning
Your patio probably gets the most use throughout the summer, so it is easy to overlook it in the winter since you are not doing any outdoor entertaining, leisure or grilling. Your patio can be in pretty rough shape the first time you step onto it in the spring.
Detergent and water – and a little elbow grease – are sometimes be enough for patio cleaning, but if you notice signs of mold or algae, you may need to consider a more serious option, like power washing, to ensure that friends and family can safely enjoy your patio all summer long.
6. Roof Cleaning
Algae and moss are common roof issues in Pasadena. While you’re cleaning the outside of your house, it is an excellent time to pressure clean your roof too, but you’ll need to use a different process than what you use for most of your home’s exterior.
If you start to notice streaks on your roof, algae is probably the reason. Moss is usually obvious, too. These particles can’t be wiped off shingles, nor can you power wash the roof. Both of these methods will ruin the shingles on your roof.
The ideal method for roof cleaning is to spray the shingles with a half-bleach, half-water solution and then leave it sit. This mixture will eliminate all organisms on your roof without reducing its lifespan.
7. Clean up the Front
The front of your house is going to be what most people see, so make the best impression you can for visitors, neighbors and for yourself! Coming home to a beautiful exterior will instantly improve your day, and will inspire you to spend more time outdoors.
Clean your front porch with detergent and water or a good power wash. Wipe cobwebs and dirt off of the front door, and consider painting it for a really bright look! Clean overlooked areas such as the porch ceiling, light fixtures and ceiling fans, too.
8. Organize Outdoor Tools
You will probably be spending much more time outside, so spring is a wonderful chance to organize everything you’ll need for outdoor chores.
Gardening tools and pool care equipment must all have a specific place outside your house – somewhere that it is safe from harsh weather and out of sight so it isn’t a constant eyesore. Spending the time to organize in the spring allows you to enjoy the outside of your house so much more throughout the time of year that you spend the most time outdoors.
9. Lawn Care & Landscaping
Your lawn, trees and garden bushes can make a huge impact on the look of your house.
Remove weeds around the exterior of your flower beds and walkways, till up areas where you will be planting later on and sweep off walkways. You can also spray pre-emergent weed killer to make lawn care easier on yourself throughout the summer. Trim all the bushes too.
10. Clean the Grill
After being unused for several months, your grill could use a good cleaning, too. Leftover grease and food from your grill are definitely unappetizing, but they can also make you and your family ill.
Wet it down to remove leftover ash, then scrub the grates with a plastic scrubber (so you don’t leave behind metal particles that can sometimes get into food) and a basic detergent or degreaser.
You can probably finish these jobs over the course of a few weekends but it will be a lot of tough work. Instead, give us a call! TruClean Pressure Washing offers professional residential exterior cleaning services for patio cleaning, roof cleaning, driveway cleaning, pressure washing and more!
